ABOUT

Rachel is the Maker behind Etta Rain Ceramics, which is named after her beloved grandmother. Her passion lies in creating beautiful and functional pieces that bring joy and a sense of tranquility to their users. She specialises in wheel-thrown ceramics, using wood fire and electric kilns for unique effects. Her work includes a range of ceramics, from tea bowls and mugs to vases and serving bowls. Each piece is made by hand, ensuring that no two are ever exactly alike. For Rachel, the joy of ceramics lies in the process of creation. The tactile nature of working with clay, the endless possibilities of form and texture, and the satisfaction of seeing a piece come to life in the kiln are all part of what makes this art form so special to her.
Rachel trained as a photographer and holds a Master’s Degree in Fine Art from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She has worked for many years as a photographer, and trained in traditional darkroom techniques. As time went on and digital photography became the norm, she longed to be immersed in a creative craft once again. She has spent the past several years learning ceramics and is happiest with her hands in clay!
