Sometimes I have an idea for a pot but then it tur Sometimes I have an idea for a pot but then it turns out completely different than what I intended. This one was going to be a tall white bottle. But half way through I started to experiment with it. I threw the bottle a bit thicker than I normally would, and then faceted it when it was leather hard. I thought this red glaze would look nicer than the white I had originally intended. It goes great with my Kurinuki tea bowls. What do you think?

I’ve been working hard this week, looking at all I’ve been working hard this week, looking at all the pots I’ve thrown to decide on what’s going on my website update. I like to experiment with different glaze combinations, which leads to many many pots that aren’t quite right. But I’m also sometimes pleasantly surprised by a glaze combination, like the first one- it’s definitely one of my favourites. In a shared gas kiln, the results can vary widely in different firings, where in the kiln the pot is placed and what’s next to it. I think that’s the magic of the gas kiln, but also can be frustrating if you’re looking for consistent results!
